The Long awaited Vacation - Part 1

Right from my childhood my parents used to take me on vacation at least once a year. By 10 yrs i had visited all the hill stations in Tamilnadu. And after that in my school & College i used to go on all the excursions. So when i got married poor PV who had not visited most of the places had to find unique places or experiences for me when we plan a vacation. Recently I had gone for vacation to a place called Vattavada near Munnar with my family and it was one of the most unique experience for all of us.  We booked a homestay in The Only Place Log cabin. This place was suggested to us by PV's friend. As soon as I checked their website i was super excited to go there. When we were planning in December, they were fully booked so we pushed our vacation to January during the Pongal holidays.

On Pongal morning we started from Chennai around 12 & reached Palani in the evening. Since we had to travel through Anamalai Reserve and many other reserve forests we split the journey. On Thursday 6 in the morning we started from Palani. It was cold in Palani itself and the countryside was so beautiful with lots of Green vegetation and Peacocks too. While entering the Anamalai Reserve and other reserve forests we needed to give our vehicle no, name & phone numbers and they also instruct us not to stop anywhere in the middle. So we took all the twists and turns and the only thing we got to see in Anamalai Reserve was Elephant Dung fresh from the morning.

By the time we reached Munnar it was 10 in the morning & we were super duper hungry & tired. We had to travel another 2 hrs from here to reach Vattavada. And this travel was completely through the tea estates and dams of Munnar. It was a super sunny and clear morning & when we reached Top station we got the first glimpse of Fog.

To reach Vattavada we had to again go through Parambikulam Reserve forest and here they are even more strict and instructed not to stop at all. And they had so many posts indicating wild life crossing. Unfortunately we didn't see anything other than monkeys. This village is known as the Winter vegetable village and they are famous for their Strawberry Farms. Also other than BSNL there isnt any other cell service in these places.

Our homestay was at the top of a hill with other hills & forests surrounding them. Its really a slice of heaven on earth with such beautiful views. Our rooms were wooden log cabin with working fireplaces and the temperature was around 11. We had an awesome home cooked Lunch and crashed on the beds for a short siesta.

In the evenings we had tea by the wooden stool logs placed outside with sounds from Barking deers and it was getting colder. Around 8.30 when we were having our dinner, our host called us outside to show us a bison herd which was just 50 feet away from us in the fruit orchards below. At night we started a fire in the room as it was too cold & after a game of cards we slept with two blankets each.
